Life Life’ing

I’ve been quiet, but my life definitely hasn’t been.
About two weeks ago, I took Piper to the emergency vet after she started vomiting and having terrible diarrhea. They sent us home with some meds but warned that if she vomited again, she’d need to come back. A week later, she began projectile vomiting, and after a very difficult decision… well, Piper is no longer with us.
This wasn’t made lightly. Beyond the sickness, she had lost about eight pounds—which, for her, was a lot. She stopped eating, which was never her. She was having frequent accidents, which also wasn’t her. There was a long list of things that made her… just not Piper anymore.
As my mom put it: “Spike, here’s another f’ing dog for you to watch.”
To Piper — My Best Girl
Thank you for always being there for me, even when you probably would’ve rather been out in the wilderness.
Thank you for always sharing my ice cream.
Thank you for finishing the peanut butter.
Thank you for letting me cuddle you, even when you didn’t like it.
Thank you for licking my tears.Thank you for being Momma’s big girl.
Thank you for always being the best road dog.
Thank you for biting the people you bit.
And lastly, thank you for being the sweetest girl, even when you didn’t feel good.
Other not so good news, not only did I not make this month’s payment, I somehow ended up with a two thousand—yes, TWO THOUSAND—dollar water bill. I literally just wanted to bend over and say thank you. LIKE, WHO HAS 2K FOR A BILL? A UTILITY bill?!
The city is coming out today (9.9), and I’ve got a plumber scheduled for Friday, but seriously, WTF.
I went over to the house and there wasn’t any water anywhere. There was a toilet running before, but the water was still off to that. On one hand, I hope there’s something actually wrong so I can at least explain the $2K and maybe get it adjusted. On the other, I just want to be done with it. I am so over LIFE LIFE’ING.
On the Bright Side
Two positives to end on:
Substituting went well these past two weeks.
Someone put an offer on the house—so hopefully we short sale. 🙌
And that’s the thing about life—sometimes it’s heartbreak, sometimes it’s a $2,000 water bill, and sometimes it’s just showing up anyway. Life keeps life’ing, and all we can do is keep life’ing right back.
